Coupons Addon

Unlock coupon codes on Free or Starter for $5 / mo or $50 / yr — prices, worked examples, which payment methods can discount, and exactly what happens when you add, remove or change plan.

The Coupons Addon unlocks coupon codes — one code any number of subscribers can redeem for money off — on the plans that do not already include it.

Growth already includes coupon codes

If you are on Growth, there is nothing to buy: coupon codes are part of the plan. Subscriby refuses the purchase rather than charging you for something you already have.

For the general rules — how addons are billed, added and removed — see Addons. This page covers what is specific to coupons.

Which price you pay

The addon follows your plan's billing cycle, so the price depends on the plan you are on:

Your planBilling cycleAddon price
FreeMonthly only$5 / mo
Starter monthlyMonthly$5 / mo
Starter annualAnnual$50 / yr
GrowthEitherIncluded — nothing to buy

Free is monthly-only

There is no annual Free plan, so on Free the addon is always $5 / mo. The annual price becomes available once you are on an annual Starter plan.

What paying annually saves you

AmountMonthly × 12Annual priceYou save
Coupons Addon$60$50$10 — two months free

Unlike the Passes Addon, whose annual price is a smaller reduction than the plans give you, this one is a straight two-months-free deal.

It usually pays for itself on one sale

At $5 a month this is the cheapest thing Subscriby sells, and a coupon exists to increase what you take. One extra $10 subscription in a month covers it twice over. That is the whole pitch — we are not going to pad it.

Adding it

Add it from Billing → Plans, in the Addons section. It takes effect immediately, and you are charged only for the days left in your current billing period. As soon as the payment succeeds you can create coupon codes — in the dashboard, the Telegram bot, the REST API and MCP alike.

Example: adding mid-month

You are on Starter monthly ($39), billed on the 1st. On 15 September you add the addon.

Days left in the billing period16 of 30
Charged today$5 × 16/30 = $2.67
Your invoice on 1 October$39 + $5 = $44.00

Example: adding to an annual plan

You are on Starter annual ($390), renewing 1 March. On 1 September you add the addon, with six months left to run.

Charged today$50 × 6/12 = $25.00
Your invoice on 1 March$390 + $50 = $440.00

Removing it

Removing takes effect at the end of the billing period you have already paid for, with no refund. Your codes keep working until that date, then stop being offered.

Example: removing mid-month

You are on Starter monthly with the addon, billed on the 1st, and you remove it on 10 September.

Refunded todayNothing
Codes keep working until30 September, the end of the paid month
Your invoice on 1 October$39.00 — no addon line

You can always remove this one

Some addons cannot be dropped while you are still using them. The Passes Addon is the example: a pass is a dated window your customers have already paid into, so taking passes away would leave you unable to deliver something already sold.

Coupons carry no such commitment. A coupon discounts one payment, at the moment it is made. Once that payment goes through, the discount is done — there is nothing left for the feature to keep delivering. So there is no lock, no "clear these first" message, and no waiting: remove it whenever you like.

This is why coupons only discount the first payment

A code that kept discounting every renewal would be an ongoing promise, and it would have to be locked exactly like passes. Keeping coupons to the first payment is what makes them freely removable — and it is why a subscriber's renewal always charges list price.

Moving up to Growth while you have it

Growth includes coupon codes, so the addon is removed for you as part of the same change, and the time you had not used yet is credited against the upgrade. You are never charged twice.

Example: Starter plus addon, moving to Growth

You are on Starter monthly ($39) plus the addon ($5), billed on the 1st. On 15 September you move up to Growth ($89), with 16 of 30 days left.

Growth for the days left$89 × 16/30 = $47.47
Credit for unused Starter− $39 × 16/30 = $20.80
Credit for unused addon− $5 × 16/30 = $2.67
Charged today$24.00
Your invoice on 1 October$89.00 — no addon line

Your codes keep working the whole time. They simply come from your plan now instead of the addon.

Moving down from Growth

Going from Growth to Starter or Free takes coupon codes away, and Subscriby does not block it — there are no unfinished sales to protect. If you want to keep your codes working, add the addon in the same step from the Addons section; it starts at the end of your current billing period, at the same moment the cheaper plan does, so you never pay for both.

What happens to your codes when the addon ends

Nothing is deleted, and nothing your subscribers already paid is reversed.

Discounts already givenStand. Nobody is re-billed the difference.
Subscriptions bought with a codeCompletely unaffected, and renew at list price.
Your codesStay in the dashboard, but stop applying at checkout.
Creating or editing codesLocked until you have coupons again.
Your redemption historyKept, and still shown on your dashboard.

A subscriber who tries one of your codes after the addon has ended is told the code is not valid, the same as for a mistyped or expired one. Add the addon again — or move to Growth — and every code you had starts working immediately, with its terms and its counts exactly as you left them.

Your codes stop the moment the addon does

Subscriby checks whether coupon codes are part of your plan every time somebody tries one at checkout — not just on the day you created the code. So the moment the addon ends, your codes stop working; the moment you add it back, they all work again. There is nothing to re-create and nothing to switch back on.

Which payment methods can discount

Every payment method you can sell a one-time plan or a time-limited pass with carries a coupon. Only Stripe can discount a recurring plan.

SkrillYesNo
PaystackYesNo

Telegram Stars (platform currency)Yesn/a — Stars are one-time

If a subscriber applies a code and then picks a method that cannot discount that plan, they are told to choose a different method or continue without the code. They are never charged the full amount while believing a discount applied.

Only Stripe can discount a recurring plan

Stripe is the only provider that lets a discount be attached to the subscription itself — as a coupon with duration: once, which Stripe applies to the first invoice and no later one. Every other provider takes a single amount at checkout, and one number cannot mean "less now, full price later", so a coupon on a recurring plan is refused there rather than silently charging full price. On a one-time plan or a pass there is no renewal, so all of them work.

Razorpay discounts arrive as a payment link

Razorpay's subscription checkout charges against a plan registered on Razorpay's side, which carries no amount Subscriby can reduce. So a discounted one-time Razorpay purchase is sent as a payment link priced at the discounted total instead. Your buyer sees an ordinary Razorpay payment page, and the sale appears under Payment Links in your Razorpay dashboard rather than among your subscriptions. Full-price Razorpay purchases are unchanged.
