Overview

An addon is a single feature you buy on top of the plan you are already on, charged on the same invoice. It exists so you can pay for one feature without moving up to a plan built around a dozen others.

Addons follow your plan's billing cycle

An addon is always charged on the same cycle as your plan — you do not pick it separately. A monthly plan takes the monthly price, an annual plan the annual one, and both renew on the same date.

That is Subscriby's own rule, not a limitation of our payment processor. We could bill a monthly addon against an annual plan, and we deliberately do not: it would give you two renewal dates drifting apart, a surprise charge in the middle of your year, and no sensible way to show either on your billing page. One plan, one renewal date, one invoice.

Adding an addon

Adding takes effect straight away, and you pay only for the time left in your current billing period rather than a full month or year. That is the same way a plan upgrade already works here.

Adding one during your free trial

Every paid plan opens with a 7-day free trial. If you add an addon while that trial is running:

• You are not charged then and there. Nothing has been paid yet, so there is no part-period to prorate against.
• Your trial is not cut short. Its end date is untouched, and the addon simply starts billing when your plan does.
• The feature works immediately, for the rest of the trial.
• Your first invoice covers your plan and the addon together.

Removing an addon

Removing takes effect at the end of the billing period you have already paid for, and there is no refund. The feature keeps working until that date, then stops.

That is deliberate, and it matches how plan downgrades already work here. You paid for the period, so you get the period.

Until that date your billing page shows the addon as ending on a given date rather than already gone.

Some addons cannot be removed while you are still using them

If an addon unlocks something you sell on to your own customers, Subscriby will not let you drop it while those sales are still live. Your customers have paid for something, and taking the feature away underneath them would leave you unable to deliver it.

When that applies, the message tells you exactly what is in the way and how to clear it. An addon that unlocks something only you use has no such restriction and can be removed whenever you like.

The Passes Addon is the current example. The Coupons Addon is the counter-example: a coupon discounts one payment at the moment it is made, so once that payment settles there is nothing left to keep delivering, and it can be removed at any time.

Moving to a plan that already includes the feature

If you move up to a plan that includes what your addon unlocks, the addon is removed for you as part of the same change, and the time you had not used yet is credited against the upgrade. You are never charged twice for the same feature.

The feature keeps working right through the change — it simply comes from your plan now instead of the addon.

Moving down to a plan that does not include it

Going down to a plan without the feature would take it away. If that would break something you are actively selling, Subscriby blocks the change and offers the addon as the way through — a button that moves you down with the addon already attached, in one step.

The addon starts at the end of your current billing period, at the same moment the cheaper plan does, so there is never a point where you are paying for both.

Switching between monthly and annual

Your plan and your addons change price together, in one step — you cannot end up with an annual plan and a monthly addon.

If an addon has no price for the cycle you are switching to, Subscriby stops the switch and tells you, rather than quietly dropping something you are paying for. Remove that addon, switch your cycle, then add it again.

When a payment fails

If an invoice goes unpaid, your subscription becomes past due. Two things happen, and they are worth separating:

• Access stops. The feature locks, exactly as if your plan had never included it.
• Billing does not stop. The addon is still on your subscription and still being invoiced.

Because of that gap, you can remove an addon while past due. You do not have to first pay an overdue invoice for something you cannot currently use in order to stop paying for it. Removing still takes effect at the end of the billing period and still moves no money.

Once the overdue invoice is paid, the feature comes back on its own — and if you changed plans to recover, your addons move across with you rather than being dropped.
