Mollie
Connect Mollie with one API key for iDEAL, SEPA Direct Debit, Bancontact, cards and PayPal across Europe, with recurring billing on a mandate.
Mollie is a payment gateway focused on Europe — subscribers pay with iDEAL, SEPA Direct Debit, Bancontact, cards, PayPal and the other methods you enable on your Mollie profile. A recurring plan renews on the mandate the first payment leaves behind.

What you'll need
- A Mollie account with a website profile.
- The profile's API key: the Test key starts with
test_, the Live key withlive_. - The payment methods you want to offer enabled on the profile. For plans that renew, that means a method whose first payment leaves a mandate (iDEAL, Bancontact, cards or PayPal) plus SEPA Direct Debit, which is what an iDEAL or Bancontact mandate renews through.
Setup
Enable payment methods in Mollie
- Sign in to your Mollie dashboard.
- Under Settings → Website profiles, enable the methods you want to offer.
- For plans that renew, enable a method whose first payment leaves a mandate — iDEAL, Bancontact, cards or PayPal — and SEPA Direct Debit, because an iDEAL or Bancontact mandate renews as a SEPA Direct Debit charge.
Copy the API key
- Go to Developers → API keys.
- Copy the Test API key or the Live API key of the profile you want to sell through. The key decides the mode.
Add Mollie in Subscriby
- Go to Payment Methods → Setup a Payment Method.
- Pick Mollie.
- Select Live or Test — the mode must match the key's prefix.
Enter credentials
- Mollie API key — paste the key. A key whose prefix contradicts the mode is refused.
Activate and save
Toggle Active, click Save Changes. Nothing else is needed: Subscriby tells Mollie where to send the notification for every payment, so there is no webhook to configure.
Supported currencies
Mollie settles in 29 currencies: AED, AUD, BRL, CAD, CHF, CZK, DKK, EUR, GBP, HKD, HUF, ILS, ISK, JPY, MXN, MYR, NOK, NZD, PHP, PLN, RON, RUB, SEK, SGD, THB, TWD, UAH, USD and ZAR.
Price the plan in one of them and attach Mollie. Which methods a buyer sees depends on the currency: EUR works with nearly all of them, while iDEAL, Bancontact and SEPA Direct Debit are euro-only.
The subscriber experience
Pick the provider
Subscriber picks Mollie at checkout on either the bot or the web portal.
Land on Mollie's checkout
Redirected to Mollie's hosted checkout, which offers the methods you enabled for the plan's currency.
Pay and return
Completes the payment and returns to Subscriby. Subscriby reads the payment back from Mollie with your own key before anything is recorded, then activates the membership.
Renewals
For recurring plans, the first payment leaves a mandate: a card renews on the card, PayPal on the PayPal account, and iDEAL or Bancontact on the bank account behind them, through SEPA Direct Debit. Subscriby starts a Mollie subscription on that mandate at the plan's full price, from the day the paid period ends; Mollie charges every cycle, and a failed charge opens the member's grace period.
Mollie renews on intervals up to a year, spelled as 12 months. A recurring plan whose cycle is longer than a year cannot renew on Mollie and is refused at checkout; keep such plans on Stripe, PayPal, Polar or Kelviq.
Coupons
Coupon codes work on one-time and recurring plans. The coupon reduces the first payment; a recurring plan then renews at the plan's full price.
Refunds and chargebacks
Issue refunds in your Mollie dashboard. Mollie's notification is read back with your key and the refund recorded once: a full refund ends the membership and emits subscription.refunded, a partial one leaves access alone and emits payment.refunded. A chargeback is recorded the same way, as a refund with the bank's reason.
